Dear Members and Guests,
Our "Silent Auction Basket" to benefit the Florida Writers Foundation is currently receiving donations. We are well on our way to build a nice basket for the cause. Some of our members have also tapped local merchants to donate golf packages, etc. which will be appearing on the auction website. Thank you so much for your time and participation in this worthwhile project. You're the best!
If you haven't had a chance to donate something (several of you have been traveling) there is still time. We will receive your gifts through our September meeting. So far we've rec'd office supplies, books, misc. items, non-perishable items (wine, etc.) and monetary donations. Just about anything will do as long as it's new.
Member announcements: Lorraine Harris will be teaching a course at the Villages Lifelong Learning College. Course: Why Authors Need A Website. Dates: October 5th and 7th, 2009.
Where: Lifelong Learning College, 275 Buffalo Trail, The Villages, Fl 32162. Time: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Cost: $69.00. Register by calling the college - (352) 753-3035.
We still haven't received any information about this year's Villages Literary Festival. Will let you know when and where as soon as I hear anything from the Literary Staff Leaders.
I'll be emailing you all very soon to see who might be interested in a pilot program within our group which would consist of having your critiques done via email prior to the meeting. With our group bulging at the seams, we are hard pressed to have everyone read during our critique sessions. Other groups have and are doing some of the above mentioned successfully on a regular basis. Hopefully if we can employ a percentage of pre-critiques, it will help alleviate the reading crunch situation. Anyone wishing to become a Writers Group Leader and moderate a new group in this area is encouraged to contact me.
Plans are in the making for our next workshop which will teach us how to self-edit our writing. Stay tuned for further announcements.
Welcome new FWA member, Susan Price. Glad to have you be a part of our group.
