Helpful tips to avoid failure

If you are seeking to get published you have to accept the fact (even though it may go against your creative bent) that you are in Business! You'll have to keep tract of your query letters, submissions, checks, etc.

#1) If you have a fear of doing business, get over it! Face it head on. When I first realized I needed to get organized and get a grip on things, I went to the library and studied up on how to run a small business and other related books. Guess what? It wasn't as difficult as I had convinced myself it would be.
#2) Don't buy into the "I'll do it someday" loser philosophy. If you keep thinking like that you'll build up some regrets along the way. Life is short. Carve yourself a bit of time and start working on your dream. I know it's hard to see your way clear when 'yur up to yur neck in alleeeegatohrs' but you can start small. Even 15 minutes a day can do wonders after several weeks. Been there done that, while on the work force and raising 4 kids. You will make progress! Really!
#3) You are a unique human being with good points and bad points. For Pete's sake, Don't compare yourself to anyone else! That's a killer and a good way to get and stay depressed if you entertain that thought too often. Quit it!
#4) Get off your pity pot. Think positive. When doubts start rearing their ugly heads, counter act them with positive thoughts. The only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time (So the saying goes). One bite a day is better than zero bites. You will make progress and feel good about yourself before long.
#5) Don't leave a job undone ie., file those papers before they cover everything in sight. Complete your task. Unclutter your desk. Yeah, yeah, we know you are immensely creative and living like a slob is part of the whole artsy thing right? NOT! Successful persons are organized.
#6) Know what your talent is. Don't focus on your weaknesses. Focus on your strong points. Don't be too hard on yourself during your writing process. Enjoy your craft!
